A 19-year-old student faces charges for bringing a handgun to a Douglas County school earlier this month.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Parker Police Department and the school resource officer for Legend High School, alerting them that the a vehicle parked at Chaparral High School may have guns inside it, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Officers also searched two cars at Legend High School, where they found knifes inside each vehicle.

Parker police, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Douglas County School district investigated the incidents and determined that the two were related to circumstances that happened outside of school.

Authorities confirmed that there was never a plot or a credible threat to harm any students at either school.

Markkus DeHerrera, a student at Chaparral High School, was booked into the Douglas County Detention Facility Monday after investigators determined that he brought the guns to the school. He faces one charge of possessing a weapon on school ground and unlawful conduct on public property.

DeHerrera was released Monday on a $3,000 bond.

A case has also been filed against a 16-year-old student at the school. That student faces one charge of harassment.
