A jury-selection error Monday derailed the misdemeanor DUI trial of Broncos linebacker Genos “DJ” Williams, the third delay since the November 2010 traffic stop that prompted the charges.

While defense attorney Harvey Steinberg should have been able to strike three jurors from the panel, he was allowed to strike only two. Denver County Judge Andre Rudolph declared a mistrial after he discovered the mistake.

Williams, 29, was stopped Nov. 12, 2010, for driving in the 900 block of Broadway without using headlights.

Steinberg told jurors Monday that no blood-alcohol test would be presented at trial, now scheduled for Aug. 15.

It could be Williams’ second impaired- driving offense. The first was a 2005 driving-while-ability-impaired plea in Douglas County. A conviction on a second offense could add time to a six-game suspension already imposed this season by the NFL for Williams’ violation of the league’s ban on performance-enhancing substances.
