BOULDER, Colo.—Boulder open space officials are recommending that the city council reject an offer of a bison herd from CNN founder Ted Turner, saying it would cost the city too much money to maintain the animals as a tourist attraction.
A study by Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks Department estimated it would cost up to $650,000 to set up the herd and another $100,000 a year to maintain the animals in a field south of Boulder.
According to the Boulder Daily Camera (), the board said Wednesday finding an alternative is not worth city staff time.
The city council will consider the recommendation on June 5.
