CARBONDALE, Colo.—Despite the possibility of water restrictions this summer, Carbondale is donating some of its water rights in Ruedi Reservoir to a regional pool to help offset low streamflows in the Roaring Fork and Colorado rivers.
The town’s utility director says there is a serious dry spell on the horizon that could pose a significant danger of wildfires and water shortages.
According to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent (), the donation, along with others anticipated from other municipalities and private interests, is meant to keep Western Slope rivers and creeks flowing.
