LAS ANIMAS COUNTY — Just in time for busy Memorial day weekend travel, Highway 12 will reopen Friday after Wednesday.
The Colorado Department of Transportation said a detour is under construction parallel to the damaged bridge and should be open to traffic by Friday afternoon.
From Trinidad, traffic can still travel on Highway 12 as far west as Weston. All other traffic heading to points west of Weston are being directed to U.S. 160 through Walsenburg, west on U.S. 160 to Highway 12, and south on Highway 12 through La Veta.
No one was hurt in Wednesday’s collapse.
CDOT engineers remain on sit to determine what caused the failure, which remains unknown.
