Police in Lakewood this morning helped wrangle a couple of stray cows that got loose from a nearby pasture.

The animals, penned in the area of South Harlan Street and West Exposition Avenue, made their way about two miles east to the vicinity of South Knox Court and West Alaska Place, according to Lakewood police.

At one point police tethered one of the strays to a telephone pole, putting a halt to the beast’s wandering ways.

One police officer was knocked to the ground, but the officer didn’t suffer any injuries, said Steve Davis, a Lakewood Police Department spokesman.

At about 7 a.m. the cows’ meandering came to a halt when the animals were herded into a trailer, Davis said.
