Getting your player ready...

May has been less than merry for the Rockies, turning playoff hopes into a fantasy. But the Summer Game goes on at 20th and Blake streets. Fans are still flocking to see the team, or perhaps the opponent, or just enjoying a slice of baseball heaven. From the club’s “Purple Monday” events to fireworks nights, the Rockies have jammed their calendar with plenty of promotions:

Memorial Day: The Rockies are celebrating Memorial Day with a day-night doubleheader Monday against Houston. The Rockies will honor the nation’s armed forces during the day game (1:10 p.m.). After the night game (6:10 p.m.), there will be a fireworks display.

T-shirt nights: In an effort to turn Coors Field purple this summer, the Rockies are giving away purple T-shirts at several games. Three to mark on your calendar: June 1, Michael Cuddyer; June 2, Carlos Gonzalez; Aug. 4, Todd Helton. T-shirts are limited to the first 20,000 fans in attendance.

Independence Day fireworks: The Rockies will be in St. Louis on the Fourth of July, so the Coors Field pyrotechnics will come earlier this year. The annual fireworks nights are June 29 and 30 after games against San Diego.

Photo day: Before the game against the Cincinnati Reds on July 29, players will be available on the field for photo opportunities. Gates open at 10:30 a.m., and players will be available from 10:45-11:45 a.m.

Fan appreciation game: The Sept. 21 game against the Diamondbacks is being touted as “Year of the Fan Appreciation Day.” Fireworks will follow the game. Patrick Saunders, The Denver Post
