VAIL, Colo.—Eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 between Vail and Silverthorne have reopened following a spill of hazardous materials that blocked eastbound traffic for hours.
The Vail Daily reports ( ) the highway closed after a flatbed truck dropped eight, 50-pound bags of hydrated lime powder just past 10 a.m. Wednesday. The corrosive chemical can cause burns to the skin, eyes and lungs.
Westbound I-70 reopened within two hours. Eastbound lanes were open by 5:30 p.m.
