AURORA, Colo.—Federal officials say Children’s Hospital Colorado has agreed to pay $95,000 to settle claims it discriminated against a job applicant with a disability.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission had alleged the hospital violated the Americans with Disabilities Act when it withdrew a job offer to Cecilia McMurray after a health screening revealed she had fibromyalgia (fy-broh-my-AL’-juh), a chronic pain disorder.
The hospital said Thursday it has a long history of hiring workers with disabilities. It issued a written statement saying it proactively accommodates disabled employees without hesitation.
The EEOC says the hospital has agreed to ensure employees are trained on disability act requirements and will tell the EEOC each time someone is denied a job because of a medical screening.
