STERLING, Colo.—A Colorado mother has been sentenced to 32 years in prison for the death of her toddler son, who was found buried under her trailer in Logan County.
Juanita Kinzie could be eligible for parole after serving 24 years.
Kinzie pleaded guilty in April to second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in the death of 3-year-old Caleb Pacheco.
During her sentencing hearing Tuesday, her defense attorney said Kinzie had been physically and sexually abused and was abandoned by parents who were addicted to drugs. As a child, she lived in foster homes and had abusive relationships.
Her family has said she had a substance abuse problem.
Kinzie said in court that she doesn’t excuse anything that has happened.
