LONGMONT, Colo.—Weld County farmers are asking for state permission to use irrigation water from wells on their farms.
More than 100 farmers and supporters held a rally Wednesday seeking an emergency drought disaster declaration from the state. So far, state officials have not responded.
According to the Longmont Times-Call ( ), record-low snowfall this winter followed by almost no rain this spring is causing farmers to run out of surface water that usually lasts into mid-July.
Farmers say without help in the next two weeks, they could lose their crops.
