
VaVaVette open for business
Grand-opening festivities are planned from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday for VaVaVette, a new boutique carrying vintage clothing reproductions by Denver burlesque entertainer Cora Vette. She creates her fashions from vintage patterns she’s been collecting for many years, and is known for her handmade costumes. She will be joined by Eva Vette, a.k.a. “Mistress of the Rhinestones,” a singing burlesque dancer who has hand-embellished hundreds of accessories for the new shop. Refreshments included. Regular store hours will be noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and by appointment. The store is at the south end of the Wazee Union building, 3501 Wazee St.
Junk junction
The inaugural Junk Mother Lode sale is Saturday and Sunday in the historic town of Victor. Salvaged treasures, vintage wares and repurposed items are available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. 106 N. Fourth St., under the Olympia Hotel.
Window shopping?
“Buy a Window, Save a Life” is the theme of a Project C.U.R.E. benefit beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. During this event, dubbed “Glass, Grapes and Gruyere,” local businessman Martin Faith of Scottish Stained Glass in Centennial is selling his personal collection of antique stained glass windows. Proceeds from the event will help Project C.U.R.E. ship approximately $1,000,000 in medical supplies to the new pediatric intensive care unit at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City. Each of the 150 leaded glass windows were handmade between 1870 and 1914, and is in outstanding condition. Requested donation prices begin at $400. Valley of the deals

Get the show on the road
The Horseshoe Market has partnered with History Colorado to expand its popular outdoor market to locations around the state. The first stop is in Leadville on Saturday. Works by selected local crafters, artists and collectors will be offered outside the Healy House & Dexter Cabin from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A Georgetown market is scheduled for Aug. 4, and another will be at Fort Vasquez in Platteville on Sept. 9. Animal planet
The Denver Animal Shelter is celebrating its one-year anniversary with reduced adoption fees in June. Fees are $85 for dogs (normally $95 to $150), $50 for cats ($60 to $90), and $5 for small animals.
