Becoming a highly effective leader in schools requires commitment, the ability to inspire and motivate others, and a desire to challenge yourself like never before. Applications for the 30-credit, one-year, blended online/in-person Executive Leadership for Successful Schools (ELSS) program beginning Jan. 7, 2013 are now being accepted. The first round of application decisions for the campus cohort will be made Nov. 15, 2012. All accepted students will receive a 50% tuition scholarship. Executive Leadership for Successful Schools (ELSS) is designed to prepare school and district leaders who have the complex knowledge, skills and understanding needed to lead effective schools. Graduates will understand school-wide issues as well as community and district contexts, and will be able to communicate and lead to ensure a successful educational experience for all students. Learning is fostered through a blended program of interactive online study, weekend cohort workshops, and varied field experiences. The program is aligned to meet state and national standards for educational leadership excellence and combines the best from several sources: Research-validated effective online learning approaches – The online portion of the program is designed to be interactive and thought-provoking, while offering the convenience of online access and scheduling. Connected, project-based hands-on learning in coursework – Courses are organized in a project-based learning format; you learn about school leadership in an applied authentic context. Proven-effective Ritchie Program for School Leaders – Brings you the benefit of years of refining what students need to become effective transformational leaders of schools, and help you to link your learning to specific district and school contexts. Experiential learning in school and community settings – Each quarter, you participate in an Inquiry Project, which are the foundation of mentored internship experiences designed to prepare you for the day you assume a leadership role.
