For a hint of just how popular the Old West town of Golden is this new real estate season, consider this: Taylor Morrison Homes is grand opening its sales office and two sharp-looking single-family models in Golden’s Wildhorse Ranch today, but already has nine homes sold – and already knows exactly where those buyers are coming from.
Taylor Morrison’s prices for its grand opening (including free hot dogs and drinks today and tomorrow, and a video-game truck to keep the kids busy while you explore) start from under $300,000. “We have so many people telling us that they can’t find anything decent to buy in Golden under $400,000,” said Taylor Morrison’s Becky Hunt, as she was touching up the interior design east of Highway 93 at W. 58th Avenue. Not surprisingly, around half of the buyers that got in early are from inside Golden city limits, anxious to move up while holding onto their scenery and access to the mountains, plus their West Rail Line trains that are set to arrive next year. The other half, she says, are a surprise: couples moving out of loft-type condos and apartments in downtown Denver, ready to raise a family, wanting easier access to the wilds; and liking the looks of Mitchell Elementary School, 9-for-10 stars at GreatSchools.net, on Highway 93 five minutes from Wildhorse. Hunt says that everybody buying is outdoorsy – totally tied into biking and already aware of nearby trails up North Table Mountain, not counting even more scenic parks to the west. You’ll tour two Arbor Series models, wrapped in their own views, including an ‘Alder’ ranch – 1,609 square feet, FOUR bedrooms, or an option for three plus a study; and a ‘Spruce’ 2-story, four bedrooms PLUS a loft, from $311,990. Both come standard with covered entry porch; 9-foot ceilings; laminate-hardwood floors in kitchen, entry and breakfast nook; front-yard irrigated landscaping; and a 92%-efficiency furnace. Hunt, who had lunched over in Golden’s historic downtown, adds that new residents won’t be that far from favorite haunts back in LoDo, but are likely to make good use of Golden’s own taverns and galleries on Washington Street, as well — five minutes away.
