Getting your player ready...

If you’re looking for a career that is stable, rewarding and stimulating, consider training to become an ophthalmic medical technician.

This exciting career combines patient care and technology into one profession. Ophthalmic medical technicians work with ophthalmologists and assist in surgeries and procedures. They perform all pre-surgical diagnostics and use some of the most advanced technologies available, including ophthalmic digital photography and ultrasound- and light-based imaging equipment. They also take patient medical histories and instruct patients on medication.

Pima Medical Institute is the only college that offers the Ophthalmic Medical Technician program in Colorado or the surrounding states. In less than two years, you can earn an Occupational Associate Degree and be eligible to apply for the national certification exam.

Your degree and certification will help you secure a position as an ophthalmic medical technician or ophthalmic assistant. You could work in hospitals, at private practices, at LASIK vision centers or with retinal and corneal specialists. Some graduates even work in cadaver labs, preparing eyes for transplantation.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for technicians and assistants in health care professions will continue to grow, and the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) says the ophthalmic technician and assistant professions remain areas of growth. In fact, Pima Medical Institute alumni are in-demand in the Denver area, with local employers seeking the highly skilled professionals graduating from the Ophthalmic Medical Technician program.

Pima focuses solely on preparing students for careers in health care. Students are focused on their studies and dedicated to learning skills needed to get a job they love.
