DENVER—Denver police expect thousands of officers to attend a funeral service for one of their own who was shot and killed at an outdoor jazz event at a city park.
The police department says a service for 32-year-old single mother Celena Hollis will take place at the Denver First Church of the Nazarene Saturday. Following a six-mile procession, Hollis will be buried in Fairmount Cemetery.
Officials in Detroit, where she worked before Denver, said they would honor Hollis Saturday by turning on lights and sirens simultaneously for 15 seconds.
Police say Hollis was responding to a fight at a weekly Jazz in the Park concert Sunday in City Park when she was shot in the head.
Officers have arrested 21-year-old Rollen Oliver on suspicion of first-degree murder in Hollis’ death.
