Douglas County’s Search and Rescue team has had a busy three days, rescuing a lost mother and daughter on Saturday, an injured 60-year-old ATV rider Sunday and an 18-year-old dehydrated hiker Monday.
The first mission was Saturday night, when five teams combed to find the 35-year-old mother, her daughter and a friend, after they called 9-1-1 to say they were lost.
The call came about 7 p.m. and the trio were found in good shape and hiked back to their vehicle by 9:30 p.m., according to the search and rescue team.
Sunday at about 11:20 a.m. the team was called to help a 60-year-old Nebraska man who was seriously injured in an ATV accident on more than 2 miles off Sugar Creek Road.
Twelve team members helped move the man safety about a quarter of a mile, where he could be airlifted for medical attention.
Monday about 12:30 pm, rescuers were called to help an 18-year-old who sent an emergency call with his satellite device to a family member saying he was in trouble. Using the satellite coordinates, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and search and rescue found the teen at Russell Ridge off Colorado Highway 67, about 10 miles west of Sedalia. He was given water and rest, then hiked out with rescuers.
The Douglas County team noted in a press release about the incidents that are all-volunteer organizations and do not charge victims or taxpayers for their help.
Douglas County Search and rescue is holding meeting for potential new members on July 17 at 7 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds’ CSU Building at 500 Fairgrounds Drive in Castle Rock.
