Carle Stenmark, who served for many years as a teacher and administrator in Denver and was acting superintendent of Denver Public Schools in 1984 and 1985, has died.

He was 88.

Stenmark, a native and lifelong resident of Denver, graduated from East High and went on to serve in Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. He came home to Colorado where he began his career teaching. Stenmark eventually joined the district administration, rising through the ranks to become a deputy superintendent to five superintendents.

Stenmark himself occupied the top job for a year, and eventually retired in 1988.

He is survived by his son, Kurt Stenmark, daughter Suzanne White six grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
