LOVELAND, Colo.—Authorities will try to use DNA evidence to officially identify a woman found dead at the beginning of the High Park wildfire in Larimer County last month.

Investigators believe rancher Linda Steadman was the person found dead inside her cabin but want to verify that with more evidence before closing the case.

The coroner’s office first tried to use dental records to identify her but deputy coroner Louis Greek said Thursday that the only available records were 20 years old. He said investigators will now trying using DNA.

Steadman’s relatives told investigators they saw the wildfire consume her cabin on June 9

Linda Steadman’s daughter-in-law told KUSA-TV last month that other family members were moving cattle when they saw smoke from the newly sparked fire and rushed to the ranch.
