Mumford & Sons are at the forefront of music’s latest folk-pop revival, given lead singer Marcus Mumford’s hyper-melodic songwriting and media savvy. His British quartet, which owes a debt of existence to Denver songwriter Nathaniel Rateliff, returns for a pair of shows at Red Rocks Aug. 28-29, with openers Dawes and Slow Club, and Jazz Aspen Snowmass on Sept. 1. Both Red Rocks shows are already sold out, but tickets are still available for Jazz Aspen Snowmass. ($82.50, jazzaspensnowmass.org)
Dark Star Orchestra’s faithful Grateful Dead tributes are annual rites in Colorado, and the band isn’t disappointing local fans on its lengthy fall tour. Tickets for Dark Star’s Oct. 19-20 shows at the Boulder Theater are on sale at 10 a.m. today. ($25-$27.50, boulder- theater.com)
George Winston’s gentle instrumental songs usually herald the holidays via popular collections like “Autumn” and “December.” But the soft-spoken pianist and Hawaiian slack-key guitarist never really slows down, whatever the season. He’ll return to Colorado to play Alamosa’s Leon Memorial Hall at Adams State College on Aug. 16, and Swallow Hill Music’s Daniels Hall in Denver on Aug. 18. Tickets are on sale. Meek Mill is riding high on the success of “Amen (feat. Drake and Jeremih),” so it’s no surprise the Philadelphia rapper and Rick Ross protégé is capitalizing with a tour in advance of the Aug. 28 release of his first official studio album, “Dreams and Nightmares.” Tickets for his Aug. 2 “Dreamchasers” show at the Fillmore Auditorium are on sale. Political rapper Brother Ali will also hit the Front Range in the fall, including an Oct. 11 show at Fort Collins’ Aggie Theatre ($15; aggietheatre.com), Oct. 12 at the Bluebird Theater ($20-$25; axs.com) and Oct. 13 at Boulder’s Fox Theatre ($15-$18, foxtheatre.com). Tickets are on sale for all shows.
The surprise Louis C.K. show at the Wells Fargo Theatre on Dec. 15 may already be sold out, but there’s plenty of comedy just announced for Colorado in the coming months. The Sklar Brothers will return to Comedy Works at Larimer Square July 27-28 ($23), along with “Flight of the Conchords” co-star Arj Barker Aug. 2-4 ($20-$25) at the same venue (comedyworks.com).
