LOVELAND — Five bull elk drew crowds Thursday morning as they spent time at Sixth Street and Colorado Avenue, then sauntered on over to Garfield Elementary School to munch on shrubs and trees. These same elk were spotted Tuesday evening by King Soopers at Colorado 402 and Taft Avenue.
On Thursday, the animals ambled north across the basketball courts and paused as a pack for a moment under the hoop.
The elk took their time crossing Eighth Street and then cruised east across lawns, stopping here and there for a nibble on trees or grass. A police officer drove by and paused to thank the many passersby who had stopped for photos for not crossing the street and getting too close.
