It could be Tuesday before sunshine returns to the state and after torrential thunderstorms deluged the Front Range on Saturday more heavy rains are expected today.
A flash flood watch remains in effect along the Front Range, and Palmer Divide. Another round of thunderstorms is expected this afternoon and this evening with as much as two inches of rain falling in less than an hour.
“There is more heavy rain in store,” said Robert Koopmeiners, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Boulder.
Heavy rains on Saturday resulted in flash flooding that washed tree limbs and other debris onto roads in the High Park Fire burn area.
Interstate 25 was closed for a time at Dacono because of standing water.
The Cherry Creek Arts Festival closed early Saturday evening when rainfall flooded the grounds and portions of downtown.
The monsoonal weather has caused a welcome dip in temperatures, which had hovered in the upper 90s to 100s the past several weeks. Denver’s temperature Sunday is expected to reach 77 degrees, reach 88 degrees on Wednesday and back into the 90s on Thursday.
