SILT — — The town’s Board of Trustees tonight will take the final steps toward receiving up to $1 million from Garfield County, to be used in the town’s ongoing economic development campaign.

An intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the county government setting up the deal will be presented to the trustees tonight.

The funding is from the county’s Oil and Gas Mitigation Fund, which is specifically intended to help offset impacts related to the oil and gas industry.

The money is to be used to finance improvements along the north side of Main Street, from Third to Ninth streets.

Those improvements include installation of new sidewalks and handicapped ramps, curb and gutter, planters, landscaping and other projects to beautify the downtown area.

The cost estimates for the work, contained in a 14-page summary, come to $1,000,173, including a 10 percent contingency amount of nearly $91,000.

The infrastructure enhancements, known as the Main Street Improvement Project, are intended to spruce up the downtown in tandem with efforts to attract new businesses, such as the Dollar General store that currently is being developed.
