 As scattered, heavy showers wash over the Front Range Monday afternoon, officials in Colorado’s recent burn areas were fretting the potential of mudslides and flash flooding.

A flash flood warning is in effect in Larimer County over the High Park burn area until 4:45 p.m.

A thunderstorm was pounding the area where between June 9 and July 1. Rain had been falling on the region about 20 miles west of Fort Collins , according to the National Weather Service.

“Heavy rain has occurred on the north side of the burn scar and this water is still draining out of the creeks and into west Monument Creek,” the . “There is a chance that west Monument Creek may suddenly rise as debris flows into the creek.

The worst flooding is expected from the U.S. Air Force Academy west to Rampart Reservoir, forecasters said.

“There is still a chance of more rain over the burn scar later today,” the National Weather Service warned.
