The body of a 32-year-old hiker was found Wednesday afternoon by searchers in the Colorado mountains in Clear Creek County.
“It appears the young man took a fall on the west side of Sawtooth Ridge,” said Paul “Woody” Woodward, spokesman for the Alpine Rescue Team.
The hiker had called his wife Tuesday about noon from the summit of Mount Bierstadt, Woodward said. The man was hiking alone.
and Mount Evans, two popular Front Range peaks rising above 14,000 feet.
About 30 people combed trails looking for the missing hiker, aided by a Colorado National Guard Black Hawk helicopter based out of Eagle County, Woodward said.
The search began late Tuesday afternoon, and some searchers looked through the night, he said.
“We’ve been going non-stop,” Woodward said earlier Wednesday, before the body was found.
