The Center for Resource Conservation has partnered with SMART (Sustainable Material + Art) for “Bold Doors: A Doorway to Sustainable Art,” a juried exhibit and sustainable-art competition inspired by the possibilities of creating art with recycled building materials. are on display throughout Boulder until Aug. 3. Several pieces are available for purchase. This is the first of a multi-year endeavor to showcase sustainable art created from various types of recycled building materials. Cartography celebration
The Rocky Mountain Map Society presents Eighteen international antiquarian map dealers from all over the world will showcase more than 10,000 rare and authentic antique maps. Historically significant maps from the past five centuries are for sale. Attendees may bring a map or two of their own for an expert opinion. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 28 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 29. Admission is $10. The Denver Public Library is also hosting a series of free lectures and a special exhibit in connection with the fair. The Rocky Mountain Map Society and the Texas Map Society present the international conference, “The Mapping of the North America: Westward Expansion,” Thursday and Friday at the University of Denver.

The cherry on top
Head to Loveland Saturday afternoon from 4 to 8 p.m. for the 2012 Cherry Pie Celebration. Booths, games and crafts for children, and The Art of the Tart Cherry Pie contest is included. There’s also live music with Papa Juke, the Sammy Dee Morton Band and Dixie Leadfoot. Admission is free. Sharon Danhauer with the Loveland Historical Society will discuss the history of Loveland’s cherry production at 3 p.m. in the Foote Auditorium at the Loveland Museum/Gallery.
