DURANGO, Colo.—Fire officials are pushing back the date for when they expect to fully contain a 500-acre wildfire near Durango.

The fire was 85 percent contained Wednesday. Fire officials had estimated it would be fully contained Thursday night, but that has now been pushed back to Saturday night. Fire officials say they want to make sure the fire won’t grow beyond ditches and lines that have been built around its perimeter before they officially declare the fire fully contained.

The fire was reported Sunday on Southern Ute tribal land. It was believed to have been sparked from a lightning strike in an earlier storm that continued to smolder.
