The Rapids continued solidifying their core Wednesday, re-signing goalkeeper Matt Pickens to a multi-year contract extension, the team said. He is the fourth veteran player given a raise by the Rapids since the season began.
Pickens joins defender Drew Moor, midfielder Jeff Larentowicz and forward Omar Cummings with contract extensions signed since April.
Terms of Pickens’ contract were not disclosed.
“I’m thrilled to sign a new contract with the Rapids and commit to staying here in Denver,” Pickens said in a release.
“I feel good about the direction the Rapids are going in with Oscar leading the way, and we’re all working toward the common goal of bringing this club another championship.”
The goalkeeper this season was , making him the sixth-highest paid player on the team before the season started.
Pickens holds the club record with 27 career shutouts and he his tied for the Rapids lead with 39 career victories. Pickens’ 78 saves this season leads the MLS. He joined the team in 2009.
