 A 68-year-old man pulled out a pistol and shot a 55-year-old man in the Red Feathers Lake area of Larimer County Wednesday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Department said “physical confrontation” between the two escalated to a shooting, but did not elaborate on the argument or the relationship between the two men.

Their names were not released. Both lived in the rural community about 40 miles northwest of Fort Collins. The shooting happened near Shagwa Lake, which is northwest of Red Feathers Lake, at about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

“The 68-year-old male, also of Red Feather Lakes, who fired the shot, has been cooperative with law enforcement and is being interviewed. He has not been arrested.

The investigation is ongoing.

The shooting victim was hit once in the torso and was airlifted to a hospital. His condition was not available Wednesday afternoon.
