LEADVILLE, Colo.—One lane of U.S. 24 on Tennessee Pass has reopened, as repairs on a 100-foot-deep hole beside the highway continue.
The hole opened July 9 when the soil gave way above an abandoned, collapsed railroad tunnel. Repairs have closed part of U.S. 24 north of Leadville, but one lane reopened Monday night. A contractor is working to try to have both lanes open sometime next week.
The Colorado Department of Transportation says repairs are scheduled to be complete before the USA Pro Challenge cycling race goes through the area in late August, barring unforeseen circumstances.
CDOT says the Copper Triangle bicycle race will be able to pass through Tennessee Pass this weekend.
