BOULDER — After a spate of thunderstorms, July likely will go down as Boulder’s third-wettest on record.
Matt Kelsch, a meteorologist at the University Corp. for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, said that as of Monday, Boulder had received just less than 5 inches of rain this month. The record was set in 1919 with 7.46 inches, followed by 1965 with 5.2 inches.
Those thunderstorms also cooled off the city enough to keep this month from breaking heat records — unlike Denver, which is expected to close out its hottest month ever recorded.
The hottest month in Boulder — as measured by the average high temperature — was in 2002, when the average high was 93.4 degrees. The next year wasn’t much better. The average high in July 2003 was 92.4.
