ASPEN, Colo.—U.S. Forest Service officers and Pitkin County sheriff’s deputies will be enforcing camping and parking restrictions for thousands of spectators expected to view this year’s USA Pro Cycling Challenge over Independence Pass.
The Forest Service says officers will be staying overnight to make sure campers comply.
According to the Aspen Daily News ( ), day parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in designated areas on both sides of the pass.
The inaugural USA Pro Challenge attracted more than 1 million spectators statewide last year. Organizers hope to nearly double that this year. The seven-day race runs from Aug. 20 to Aug. 26, and draws pro racers from around the world.
