The unemployment rate for the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield area was 8.3 percent in June, according to a report released Wednesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Nationally, the unemployment rate was 8.4 percent in June 2012.
According to Linda Nickisch, an economist for the Bureau of Labor Statistics, unemployment has been going up during the summer, most likely due to high school and college kids looking for work.
She said the trend normally goes down in the fall when the kids return to school.
The unemployment rate for the Denver metro area in May was 8.1 percent; April, 7.9; March, 8.2; February, 8.2; January, 8.4.
