Colorado has the third-lowest mortgage closing costs in the nation, according to a report released Monday by .
On average, it costs $3,199 to close on a mortgage in Colorado, compared with the national average of $3,754.
The lowest closing costs were found in Missouri at $3,006 on average and Kansas at $3,193.
Last year, Colorado had the 23rd-lowest closing costs in the nation.
Closing costs in Colorado declined 17 percent over the past year, versus a 7 percent decline nationally.
For the third straight year, New York had the nation’s highest closing costs at an average of $5,435. The next-most expensive states are Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida and Oklahoma.
“This is the second year in which lenders are required to estimate third-party fees within 10 percent of the final cost. It seems like they’re getting more accurate, which helps explain the sharp decrease in these fees over the past year,” said Greg McBride, ‘s senior financial analyst.
