Two people were killed and 15 were taken to area hospitals from a fire at the in Aurora Monday night.
No information about the people who died has been released.
Capt. Allen Robnett, spokesman for the Aurora Fire Department, said flames were soaring higher than the rooftop of the four-story building when fire crews arrived just after 11 p.m.
“Residents were at the windows and in some cases hanging out of the windows,” he said. “We made numerous ladder rescues.”
He said the two who died were on the fourth floor.
Robnett said the fire was under investigation and declined to comment on whether arson is suspected.
The building is directly across from the University of Colorado Health and Science Center at the Anschutz Medical Campus.
A large number of people were displaced, but Robnett said he did not know where they were being taken or how they were being assisted.
