LONDON — With a strong kick, Texas grad Leo Manzano came from sixth place at the top of the home stretch to claim the silver medal in the men’s 1,500 meters Tuesday night. It was the first men’s medal in that event for the U.S. since Jim Ryun in 1968.

Two American women took medals with personal-best times in the 100-meter hurdles in a race won by Sally Pearson of Australia. Dawn Harper took the silver and Kellie Wells the bronze.

Harper was timed in 12.37 seconds and Wells at 12.48. Pearson broke the Olympic record in 12.35.

American Lolo Jones, who was leading late in the race in Beijing four years ago before tripping over a hurdle, was fourth.
