Seems is besting the illegal downloaders of the world. Rather than record the songs for his next album, the artist is marching to the beat of a different drum. No drums at all, in fact.
Beck’s 20 new tracks will be available as individual pieces of sheet music, published in December by Faber and Faber.
The aptly named “Song Reader” “album” contains full color art for each song, as well as a hardcover carrying case. The songs, including two instrumental pieces, total 108 pages.
the idea behind the unorthodox release is for fans to play the songs and “bring them to life” on their own.
Faber and Faber’s publishing director Lee Brackstone said, “Beck is one of the great maverick pop stars of this, or any age, and as soon as I saw ‘Song Reader’ the relevance of the concept struck me.”
Yes, because what’s currently relevant is A. sheet music and B. printed versions of things. No word if it’s being made available for eReaders or iPads. Or if Beck will actually ever sing the songs. –Kelsey Fowler
