Downtown Denver near Civic Center park was rocked by a boom shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday, which sounded like a sonic boom.
The culprit was the blown tire on a Regional Transportation District bus near 15th Street and Court Place, said RTD spokesman Scott Reid.
No one was injured and passengers on the bus were moved to another bus.
The rupture of the rear inside tire sounded like gunshots inside the bus, and some passengers dove to the floor of the bus, bus driver Anthony Hurst said.
“It scared the hell out of me,” he said. “It didn’t shake. Just boom.”
