VAIL— —The Vail Town Council will resume its review of a proposal to establish a new zone district, the Vail Village Townhouse District, at its Aug. 21 afternoon work session and evening meeting. Meeting agendas and meeting times will be available on the town’s website at www.vailgov.com on Aug. 17. Both meetings will include opportunities for public comment and will be held in the Vail Town Council Chambers.

The proposed Vail Village Townhouse District applies new development standards and design guidelines to any future redevelopment of townhouse properties in Vail Village east of Bridge Street. The purpose for the new district is to streamline the town’s development review process and to create incentives for redevelopment while preserving the existing residential character of the neighborhood. Many of the properties were built in the 1960s.

The current zoning for the properties, High Density Multiple-Family District, has created numerous challenges for property owners seeking to redevelop their homes due to the current zoning not accommodating townhouse style construction.
