BASALT — —Whole Foods Roaring Fork at Willits Town Center will officially open Wednesday, five years and three months after signing its initial letter of intent for a store.
The organic and natural grocer is planning a day-long celebration that starts with a breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. to benefit the Aspen Buddy Program. Bree Lindsey, the store team leader, will give an official welcome at 9:30 a.m. in front of the Willits store. Brief comments from Will Paradise, Whole Foods Market’s regional vice president, and Basalt Mayor Jacque Whitsitt will follow her introduction.
Whole Foods community relations director Amy Kasper will present Chris Lane, executive director of Rock Bottom Ranch and the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, with a check for $5,000 at part of the ceremony. The check is for an environmental education program at Basalt Elementary School.
A bread-breaking ceremony will take place at 9:55 a.m. All attendees will share an 8-foot challah by Midland Bakery as a symbol of community.
