DURANGO, Colo.—Organizers of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge estimate that more than 1 million people will line Colorado roads this week to watch some of the world’s top cyclists.

The nearly 700-mile race started Monday morning in Durango. Cyclists rode through Mancos and Dolores, over Lizard Head Pass and ended in Telluride on the first day of the race.

The Durango Herald (bit.ly/OQxr4X) reported that Gov. John Hickenlooper fired the starter’s pistol in Durango and that Barry Bonds was among those in the crowd watching the start.

The race ends Sunday in Denver.
