A fire that started before midnight Monday in a Fort Collins home killed the 64 year-old woman who lived there, the Poudre Valley Fire Authority said Tuesday afternoon.

Her name has not been released pending an autopsy and notification of her family.

The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and inside of the home it was “extremely difficult for firefighters to access, locate and remove the victim due to the overwhelming amount of material stored in every room.”

She was alive when she was rushed to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, then airlifted to University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, but succumbed, Poudre Valley Fire Authority said.

Her pet, a dog, also died in the fire.

The fire apparently started in the living room of the home at 2620 Lodi Court, and though the investigation continues it is currently classified as accidental, according to a fire department press release Tuesday.
