Amtrak, an Australian shepherd-pointer mix, who was hit by a light-rail train less than two months ago is one paw closer to being adopted.
Just seven weeks after she was carried off the tracks, the 2-year-old dog is ready for a new home, according to a news release from the Aurora Animal Shelter.
Amtrak will be available for adoption at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 27 at the shelter, located at 15750 E. 32nd Ave. in Aurora.
No one claimed Amtrak after she was hit near the Dayton Light Rail Station on July 3. Amtrak did not have a microchip when she was hit.
The blow from the train shredded Amtrak’s front-right paw, her eye was seriously injured and her tail was broken.
Shelter veterinarian Nicole Bartley reconstructed the paw. As her injuries continued to heal, Amtrak was moved to a foster home in Aurora.
Donations to help with the cost of Amtrak’s treatment can be made online or mailed to the Aurora Animal Shelter, 15750 E. 32nd Ave., Aurora, CO 80011-1518.
