The University of Colorado Denver opened its newly-located business school in the heart of downtown Denver on Thursday, with Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper saying it could not have come at a better time.
“That vision that the future was going to be more prosperous has really turned out to be true,” Hickenlooper said. “Now as we come out of this recession there is a sense of optimism.
“This is the perfect time to launch this building and really set these kids free,” the governor said of the students.
The 6-story building, at 1475 Lawrence St., was hailed by the governor as putting the CU Denver business students in midst of Denver’s innovative business community — a community, he said, that has never shied from challenges. Innovative and successful unorthodox technology has been born in the oil, gas and mining industries in Denver as well as in other industries, Hickenlooper said.
The school, said the governor, will carry on that tradition.
The new location consolidates the business school under one roof — previously scattered across 15 locations — and “creates a hub of innovation, ideas and learning,” said the school.
Dean Sueann Ambron
said the school is not just a building.
“It’s a place where we want to inspire students and its a place where we look forward to working with business,” she said.
The business school offers numerous academic disciplines including accounting, finance, business, decision sciences, information systems, international business, management and marketing.
