Indie rock: M. Ward has a date in Boulder
Saturday. M. Ward’s collaborations have long eclipsed his work as a solo artist, and yet, his own records stand the test of time far better than anything else that bears his name. You might recognize Ward as one half of She & Him (with lead indie starlet/twee vocalist Zooey Deschanel as the other half), or as one fourth of Monsters of Folk (modestly backing Jim James, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis). Lucky for listeners, Ward refuses to ditch his solo hat — April’s “A Wasteland Companion” was a welcome step forward from 2009’s “Hold Time” and should be counted as among the strongest releases in his seven-album catalog.
