AURORA — The Village at Westerly Creek, a new three-story apartment building for seniors and the disabled, is scheduled to welcome its first residents Tuesday.

The $15.4 million project — developed, owned and managed by the Aurora Housing Authority — is the first of two buildings that will replace the obsolete public housing development known as Buckingham Gardens.

Located at East Kentucky Avenue and South Jamaica Street, it has been under construction since September 2011.

The building has 55 units for very low-income residents of Aurora who are seniors or have medical disabilities. The median annual income for residents is estimated at $9,000; residents pay 30 percent of their income toward rent.
