Residents living in and around the Waldo Canyon and High Park burn areas are nearing a deadline for buying flood insurance without the standard waiting period.
A waiver granted this year by the Federal Emergency Management Agency allows flood-insurance policies to go into effect immediately without the standard 30-day waiting period.
To qualify for the waiver, flood insurance must be purchased no later than 60 days after the fire-containment date. That makes the insurance purchase deadline Wednesday for the High Park burn area and Sept. 8 for Waldo Canyon.
Information is available by calling the National Flood Insurance Program at 1-800-427-2419.
