STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.—Authorities say a pilot killed in the crash of a small plane near Steamboat Springs was from Glenwood Springs.
The Steamboat Pilot & Today reports ( ) the pilot was identified as 36-year-old Peter Nicholas Landherr.
National Transportation Safety Board investigator Jennifer Rodi says the 1963 Piper PA24 is believed to have crashed between 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m Saturday, which is around the time a sheep herder spotted the wreckage.
County Coroner Rob Ryg said Monday that Landherr’s family thinks the pilot might have been flying from Glenwood Springs to his hometown in Minnesota. Ryg says Landherr is survived by four children.
Rodi says the pilot wasn’t in communication with air traffic controllers before the crash.
Investigators are examining a GPS unit recovered from the plane.
