Passenger traffic at was down slightly in may compared to the same month a year ago. Traffic was down by 2,537 travelers, representing a 1 percent decline, according to aviation manager Kim Day .
A total of 4,534,029 passengers traveled through the airport in May.
Day said that DIA’s year-to-date traffic is up slightly with 20,793,989 passengers traveling through the airport so far this year or a 0.2 percent increase over the same time period in 2011.
Day there have been small fluctuations in monthly traffic during the first few months of 2012, but overall “our year-to-date figures have remained positive.”
She said June, July and August typically bring the busiest travel days, and officials hope that figures from those months will reflect “strong travel demand in our region.”
There was a 4.1 percent decrease in flight operations, which fell from 53,671 in May 2011, to 51,468 in May 2012.
Cargo saw a decrease of 1.0 percent with 41,731,291 pounds of total cargo handled in May compared to 42,138,170 pounds in May 2011.
