Fashion Week is about to get underway in New York and it will set off a month’s worth of designer fashion shows in the U.S. and Europe, but many retailers have already been buying the styles we’ll see in stores next spring. That’s because merchants who sell jeans and shirts and dresses and suits shop at regional markets and trade shows rather than attend the runway collections. A group of trade shows under the umbrella of MAGIC (originally Men’s Apparel Group in California, it now features women’s clothing, too) was held last week in Las Vegas. Judging from exhibitors there, we’ll be seeing more bright colors and soft pastels; double-breasted jackets in relaxed fabrics; tank tops and other athletic influences; jeans that go beyond blue; roomy totes and vintage-inspired shoes.
